How to Convert Images to AVIF Without Uploading
AVIF is a modern compressed image format designed to deliver strong visual quality at smaller file sizes. It can be a good choice for photographs and detailed web graphics.
When should you use AVIF?
Use AVIF when reducing page weight is important and your target browsers or apps support it. Keep the original file because older editing software may not open AVIF reliably.
AVIF compared with WebP and JPEG
JPEG remains widely compatible but does not support transparency. WebP is broadly supported and is a practical fallback. AVIF often compresses photographs efficiently, though encoding may take longer and browser export support can vary.
Convert an image to AVIF
- Open the Image to AVIF converter.
- Select a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or another image your browser can read.
- Start the conversion and download the AVIF result.
- Compare the result with the original at full size before publishing it.
What if conversion is unavailable?
Some browsers can display AVIF but cannot export it from a canvas. If the converter reports that AVIF export is unavailable, update the browser or use WebP as a compatible fallback.
